Kallang Waterfront - 5 Reasons Why Every Runners Should Pay Kallang a Visit

Kallang Waterfront with the Sun peeking past the horizon
The last time I ran at Kallang Stadium, was an accidental 10KM run which I was not prepared to run. I did not pay much attention to my surroundings because I was busy trying to figure out how to navigate my way back to Suntec City. I was dying from exhaustion too as the furthest I have ran ever was 6km. This time round, I proposed to the Unfit Runners try out the route from National Stadium to Garden By the Bay East.

The only objection they had: Where are we going for breakfast after that? None of the shops open that early at Kallang Leisure Center?

I pointed out that the famous Airport Road Food Center is just round the corner.

They promptly agree that the running route is an excellent one!

One can't help but question their motivation for running on an early Saturday morning.

This route is a pretty optimal route for a couple of reasons:

1) Cheap and available parking - You just need to visit Macritchie Reservoir and you will understand why parking lots are hard to come by sometimes, even on an early Saturday morning.

2) Flexible running distance - If you are working out with a bunch of friends with different endurance, this is one of the idea routes to try out. You can run as far as the Marina bay area and loop back for a 10km+ run, or just run to the stadium and touch the pole for a 1km run.

3) No traffic junctions - Runners hate anything that interrupt their pace. The worst culprit is of course any traffic junctions. We simply have no patience to wait for the Green man to appear!

4) Beautiful scenery - This route boosts some of the best vantage points of the Singapore's central landscape. It is flanked by a river, a beautiful river and graceful skyscrapers over the horizon. What else can you ask for?

5) Old Airport Road food center - The motivation for Unfit Runners. This should merit as one of the most important reason why this is a great running route!

Go try it out! You will love it!
